SALT LAKE CITY -
She was born in 1909 in Garden City, Utah. She's lived through more than one recession, exercises everyday and still loves to golf. Louise Calder turned 100 years old today. Friends at the Wellington Senior Residence helped Louise celebrate. Calder received written birthday wishes from Utah Legislatures, the Vatican, and every living U.S. President except George W. Bush in her lifetime. She's lived through all the political and economical ups and downs.
Calder says: "I think it's the worst I've ever seen it right now. And I went through the last depression. It wasn't easy. I don't think it's as hard as it is now." Louise remembers life before television, outdoor plumbing and the internet.
When she was born in 1909, a stamp was two cents. "Personally I don't think anyone in the future will ever see as much progress as I have in my hundred years," Calder says. Louise walks every morning and works out in the gym twice a week. She says exercise is what keeps her going at 100 years old.
