PROVO, Utah - Two bears were shot and killed over the 4th of July weekend. The first was shot and killed at a campground while the second was in a backyard. On Saturday evening, the smell of BBQ's in the Provo Canyon area attracted a young male black bear. Wildlife officials say it wandered through several backyards and was not easily scared away.

Friday night in Hobble Creek Canyon, a campground full of families spotted a bear and it bit into a cooler and walked through several sites. The camp host shot and killed it.

The Division of Wildlife Resources is currently investigating both shootings. Officers said it is normal for young smaller bears like these to be wandering and looking for their own territory.
