The U.S. Census Bureau is opening a call center in Sandy that will employ about 1,300 people. The call center will serve as a hotline for people with questions about the 2010 census. About 60 percent of the workforce has already been hired, and the bureau is still looking for workers who speak foreign languages such as Chinese, Spanish, Vietnamese and Russian. A representative for Vangent, the company in charge of hiring for the call center, told FOX 13 News that Utah was chosen based on its diverse cultures.

The call center is expected to open Feb. 25. Starting pay is about $11/hour. Those interested in applying for work at the call center should visit http://www.vangent.com/careers-census.php#n3.
