SALT LAKE CITY -
Five hikers that went on a hike on Mt. Olympus at about 3 a.m. this morning and got lost have been located by search and rescue. Search and rescue have established contact with the hikers by cell phone. The hikers were located 2 miles up Mt. Olympus and just 300 feet away from the main trail.
The hikers got lost on the trail during the early morning hours and were unfamilar with the area. They were able to call 911 on a cell phone, which alerted search and rescue teams. Search and rescue are currently trying to get to the location of the hikers with a state helicopter and GPS tracking devices.
The hikers are reported as uninjured and investigators are unsure why the hikers went hiking so early in the morning in the first place.
The hikers are reportedly not from Utah. Search and rescue teams are currently getting to the location of the hikers.
