Potential Matheson Challenger Has Second Thoughts
A state lawmaker who floated the idea of challenging U.S. Rep. Jim Matheson because of his vote against health care legislation now says he won't oppose the state's leading Democrat. Democratic State Sen. Scott McCoy of Salt Lake City told The Associated Press that he and other Democratic activists were disappointed and frustrated with Matheson for joining Republicans in opposing the $1.2 trillion measure that would expand coverage to millions of uninsured.

Matheson says he voted against the bill because it is too expensive.

On his Facebook page, McCoy asked whether it was time for him to form an exploratory committee to look into challenging Matheson. The comment drew scores of responses in support of the idea.

But McCoy said late Monday he felt he was being dragged down a path he's not ready to travel.
