SALT LAKE CITY - Democracy Day was held at the Capitol Monday, a tradition for the Utah Legislature for 30 years that gives the average citizen in the state the opportunity to raise concerns with lawmakers and for legislatures to talk to their constituents. Community Action Partnership of Utah with AARP organized the meet and greet with lawmakers. A majority of those in attendance were senior citizens, concerned about medicaid cuts. The state government also wants to encourage more youth to get involved.

"We want them to learn about the legislative process and understand how easy it is for them to play a part in this and how important it is for regular people to have a voice at the capitol," said Heather Tritten of the Community Action Partnership of Utah.

The meeting ended at around noon on Monday.
