HILL AIR FORCE BASE - Officials are alerting residents near Hill Air Force Base they will hear and feel another big blast. Starting at 8:00 a.m. Saturday morning, explosive ordinance experts will neutralize a Mark 82 bomb that's buried 17 feet in the ground. Thursday afternoon an F16 pilot dropped two external fuel tanks and two unarmed bombs during an emergency landing. The pilot landed safely but the jettisoned material caused a large explosion. Surrounding neighborhoods and drivers on Interstate 15 were rattled by the blast. One of the dropped bombs did not explode.

The Air Force will use shape-charged explosives to unearth the buried bomb and blow it up. People will see smoke and hear several blasts until the bomb is destroyed which will cause a separate explosion and shake the ground. The Air Force is investigating what caused the jet's engine to fail on take off. Colonel's say they are proud of the pilots skill in dropping the loads in an uninhabited area of the base.
