SALT LAKE CITY - A fatal rollover accident involving eight cars halted traffic for hours Friday afternoon on Southbound Interstate 15 near 8000 South. Cameron Roden, Utah Highway Patrol spokesman, said the fatal crash happened just before 1:00 p.m. near 8000 South and two other accidents occurred at 1300 South and 5500 South involving one vehicle in particular causing the incidents.

The mess started back at 1300 South, where troopers said a red car was speeding out of control and started hitting several vehicles. Other drivers started calling 911 as the car kept speeding down the freeway. The car hit the two other vehicles at 5500 South and 7800 South before it came to a deadly halt near 8000 South, hitting a white Chevy and landing into a cement barrier.

Troopers said they believe the driver of the red car had a medical problem because there were no other immediate signs of impairment.

The driver killed was a 54-year-old man and his identity has not yet been released. The driver of a white Chevy, which was rear ended, suffered back and neck injuries from the accident.
