VERNON, Utah -
A fire in one mobile home in Vernon quickly spread to two others Thursday morning. Witnesses say that it took the fire fighters about 15 minutes to respond to the blaze. The small town, about 30 miles south of Tooele relies on a volunteer fire department, and most members work out of town. One of the homes that caught fire was vacant; and one man was in another. The mobile home where the fire started, two children and their babysitter were able to safely get out. All got out safely.
Vernon Elementary was evacuated because of concern that nearby propane tanks might explode. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze and prevent the tanks from igniting.
Firefighters are investigating the cause of the fire, but believe it was accidental.
