SALT LAKE CITY -
Federal authorities are investigating a threat made on board a United Airlines flight from Denver to San Fransisco, that forced the airplane to land in Salt Lake City. Passengers told Fox 13 drinks had just been served on United Airlines Flight 741 when an announcement was made.
"They came on, said they found a threatening note on the beverage cart and we were being diverted to Salt Lake," said passenger Chrystal Sommers.
"Anything more about what the note said or anything like that?" she was asked by Fox 13's Ben Winslow.
"The only thing I heard was it was specific to the flight plan of the plane. The pilot was really worried and they decided to divert it cause it was pretty frightening," she replied.
The plane made an emergency landing and was sequestered away from the airport while authorities investigated.
"They came in high speed, just hit the brakes and put the wheels down and it was foggy, we couldn't see anything and it was a little anxious at times that's for sure," said passenger Todd Rodvold.
Salt Lake City Department of Airports spokeswoman Barbara Gann said the passengers were held in a secure area while they were questioned by FBI agents. A bomb sniffing dog was seen going through the plane. Airport workers pulled the luggage out of the 757 aircraft and spread it on the tarmac. The dog then went around that.
The FBI has refused to say if any device was found or if anyone was detained in connection with the note. Eventually, passengers were released and allowed to collect their baggage and were re-booked on a flight to California.
