SALT LAKE CITY -
A new Utah campaign hopes to fight against the H1N1 virus. State health officials teamed up with the private health sector to educate the public. The group wants all Utahns to become flu fighters. Their advertising blitz involves TV commercials, radio ads, and billboards. Governor Gary Herbert and Utah Jazz player Paul Millsap make appearances in the ads. The public can also find the campaign on Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube.
Officials say the ads won't just make Utahns think twice. They're meant to make people think over and over again. Dr. Susan Terry with University of Utah Health Care said, "Getting the message across means telling it to people many many different ways and many many different times."
Dr. David Sundwall with the Utah Department of Health says the flu fighter campaign promotes personal responsibility. He says it encourages Utahns to take simple steps, like washing hands, to prevent spreading the flu. "It's friendly and upbeat. I think when you see the governor and this young Millsap, he's so likeable, and if they're involved in fighting the flu, I think it might encourage everybody to become a flu fighter too," said Sundwall.
