Utah Governor, Gary Herbert hosted the Log Cabin Republicans to talk about issues concerning gay and lesbian rights in Utah. Log Cabin Republicans are the nation's only organization of Republicans who support LGBT rights and advocate legislation through individual chapters nationwide. The Log Cabin National Director was at the Governor's Mansion Tuesday night to speak briefly with Gov. Herbert.

The private reception inside was a casual social event. But serious topics in Utah's gay community were brought up. On topic that was discussed was the recent rise in suicides and concerns that 42 percent of homeless youth identify themselves at something other than straight.

Gov. Herbert told the crowd the are an important part of the fabric in Utah that needs to be supported.

"There is significantly more that unites us than divides us. Issues about the LGBT community are important, but its not just about gay issues," says vice president of the Utah chapter of Log Cabin Republicans, James Humphreys.
