A two month long investigation into a case where an off-duty sheriff's deputy shot a man during a bar room brawl at Green Street social club in September is now over and results are expected on Thursday afternoon. The two month long investigation boiled down to a two-and-a-half hour presentation Wednesday before District Attorney Lohra Miller.

It appears as though the D.A. has ruled the officer's use of deadly force was justified and he will be not face criminal charges.

On September 19, Deputy Rudy Chacon shot and critically wounded J.J. Pikula during a fight at the Greenstreet club. Chacon had been there with a large group of family and friends that Friday night.

During the evening, members of Chacon's group and Pikula's party apparently had one or more verbal confrontations.

Near closing time, more heated words were exchanged, fists started flying and ultimately a shot rang out. Pikula wound up critically injured with bullet in his abdomen.

The deputy was placed on paid leave while Salt Lake Police conducted a criminal investigation. Their findings were laid out in a two-and-a-half hour presentation Wednesday, before Miller. Also present were Salt Lake Police Chief Chris Burbank and Salt Lake County Sheriff Jim Winder.

As for the victim, Pikula was at Greenstreet for his bachelor party and he spent several weeks in the hospital recovering from his injuries. He is now out of the hospital, but is still dealing with some serious medical issues.

The D.A. is expected to make a formal announcement on the Greenstreet shooting sometime within the next hour or so.
