SALT LAKE CITY -
A kidney patient will soon be living a dialysis free life, thanks to a living donor. Marco Juarez, 20, is the star of an ad that is running on FOX 13, which urges people to save a life by becoming a kidney donor. A man from Bear Lake answered the call in Marco's case and donated his kidney to him Friday at the University of Utah Hospital.
Juarez has been on the Intermountain donor services waiting list for three years. Since then, he has been on dialysis while working full-time and going to college.
The donor, Scott Livingston, is considered a "Good Samaritan" because he is not related to Juarez. Juarez and Scott met two days ago.
"It's hard committing some time and it's going to hurt, but if it was my kid, you couldn't stop me," said Livingston.
Livingston said he has personal reasons for doing this, after watching his two and three-year-old sons suffering from a birth defect.
"I'm very grateful toward my family [and] for what [Scott Livingston is] doing," said Juarez. "I just can't thank him enough and I don't think words can express the way I feel towards what he's doing today."
FOX 13's Tamara Vaifanua has the story.
