WEBER COUNTY, Utah -
The Weber County Sheriff's Office is concerned about a missing laptop from a loan officer that contains sensitive and personal information of hundreds of home owners in Utah. Deputies said the loan officer accidently left his computer on a sidewalk instead of putting it in his car, a mistake that may put hundreds at risk for ID theft. About 600 names of clients, social security numbers and account numbers are on the computer.
Neighbors saw the loan officer, Phil Burnett, return to their street in Washington Terrace, desperately looking for his laptop. Deputies said Burnett was rearranging items in his trunk and set the laptop on the ground, forgot to put it back and drove away.
Burnett works for Sun Valley Mortgage. He said the data is password protected, but he has contacted home owners about monitoring their credit.
Weber County urges anyone who knows anything about the laptop to give them a call.
