After her 4-year-old sister died over the weekend, a 15-month-old baby girl was hospitalized in critical condition Monday night from a poisoning, suspected to come from rodent poison. Earlier Monday, crews from Utah National Guard's 85th Civil Support Team dug up aluminum phosphate pellets, placed around the home earlier by exterminators near 1400 North and 2500 West. The pellets, thought to be the cause of the deadly phosphine gas, and were believed to have killed Rebecca Toone, were dug out of the ground.

"This is extremely, extremely rare I have never seen or of anything like this in my 33-year career," said Layton Fire Chief, Kevin Ward.

On Friday, the Toone family's carbon monoxide detector went off and emergency crews found only trace amounts of CO, but no leak. Then on Saturday, the Toones 4-year-old daughter, Rebecca could not breath. She was rushed to the hospital and later died at Davis County Hospital.

Every member of the family fell ill over the weekend and initially thought it was food poisoning.

Crews say the gas did not reach any other homes and took readings inside the Toone's home later and found zero levels of the poison gas.

Officials will check the home again Tuesday morning.
