SALT LAKE CITY - You no longer need to live in Paris, New York or London to learn how to become a fashion designer. Salt Lake City houses a fashion design school that is appealing to young talent from as far away as France. "If I can compare with France - I think the teachers [here] are really interested in you and really want you to succeed and take time with you," says design student, Sandreine Kloepfer. Salt Lake Community College is rare in that it hosts a department dedicated to fashion design.

Matt Monson teaches fashion buying and marketing. He owns Nappi, a clothing boutique where only local designers are showcased.

"Pound for pound Salt Lake does really hold its own and we do have our very own unique sense of style that makes it unlike any other city and therefore will always have it's own niche appeal," says Monson.

FOX 13's Hope Woodside has more in this two-part series on local fashion.
