RIVERDALE, Utah - Thousands of people who grew up with the old movie theater are speaking out against the construction on the landmark's site. The property of the Cinedome 70 is now under contract to the Larry H. Miller group who want to build a car dealership in its place. The Cinedome 70 in Riverdale showed what are considered today's classics on 70-foot curved screens. The twin dome theater was open for 30 years before closing its doors in 2001.

"It's kind of a symbol of what the movie industry used to be. Where they more or less focused on showing people a good movie and making it feel like they were watching a movie in their own home, rather than trying to pack in as many people as they can fit in as many screens as they can and showing off who has the best technology," Allen Glines said.

A group on Facebook is against the plan of replacing the landmark with a car dealership lot. The group 'Save Cinedome 70' is now nearly 6,000 members strong and say the city of Riverdale does not need another dealership. The group would like to see the landmark revitalized. "My vision for the building is to bring back to what it once was. People say it's crumbling and it's not in code, but I think it could be brought into code and not lose its appeal of the original building," Glines said.
