Search Crew Working to Free Man Caught in Cave
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - The Utah County sheriff's office search and rescue team is working to free a man stuck in the Nutty Putty cave. The 26-year-old Stansbury Park man is stuck about 150 feet underground and about 700 feet into the narrow cave, The Salt Lake Tribune reported on its Web site Wednesday. Sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon says the man has been trapped for about 11 hours in a narrow part of the cave known as the "birth canal."

Cannon says the confined spaces crew is using air-powered tools to chip away at the rock to pull him out.

The county's last rescue at the popular cave was in 2004. The cave is actually a hole on the top of a hill about seven miles west of State Road 68. Cannon says the cave is about 1,,500 feet long and has several narrow passageways.
