COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah -
Cottonwood Heights police are looking for a man who allegedly stole wallets from patrons of local 24 Hour Fitness gyms, then used the stolen cash and credit cards to buy high-end electronics from area Target and Best Buy stores. The suspect is described as a Polynesian man, about six feet tall and heavy set, possibly in his thirties. Police say the man has been purchasing guest passes at the gyms, then using those passes to gain access to the locker rooms. Then, he waits for the locker rooms to clear out before using bolt cutters to break into lockers.
"He goes in and ... cuts the locks off of these lockers and then goes in and grabs the wallets. That's all he's looking for, the wallets. He grabs those, puts those in a bag and then shoots out of there. And then, he immediately goes to ... a Best Buy or a Target," said Beau Babka of the Cottonwood Heights police department.
Police are hoping to hear from anyone who recognizes the suspect, as well as anyone who thinks they may have been victimized by this man. If you have information that might help Cottonwood Heights police with this case, call them at (801) 944-7100.
