HOLLADAY, Utah -
Police say that Sgt. John Salazar of the Midvale police department was allegedly responsible for a four-car accident Sunday morning, which happened at 1:00 a.m. near 4600 South and Wallace Lane in Holladay. Salazar, a 28-year veteran on the force, resigned after he was cited for drunk driving that police believe caused the extensive damage to four parked cars and the totaling of his police-issued Dodge Charger.
"There is remorse on both sides, this individual provided competent, capable superior service to the citizens of this city and to the citizens of this community for many years and it's a tragedy that he's suffered personally and on behalf of our city," said Lt. Don Hutson
Salt Lake County Sheriff's Lt. Don Hutson says when deputies arrived they recognized Sgt. Salazar, smelled alcohol on his breath and administered a field sobriety test. Salazar was then cited for a DUI and was allowed to be driven home.
Salazar is the Public Information Officer for the Midvale police department and has often been the first point of contact for FOX 13 News and other news media outlets for stories involving crime in the Midvale area.
FOX 13's Sandy Riesgraf reports.
