MILLCREEK, Utah - After three years of heated debate, Millcreek now has a new ordinance to control home sizes. The Salt Lake County council voted 5 to 4 passing the ordinance that restricts the height and footprint of home construction. It says maximum heights vary between 28 and 40 feet depending on the lot size. Home owner, Bob Seawright says it has the possibility to scare people away by limiting them in doing what they want to do with their home and their real estate. Home owner, George Chapman was pleased with the councils move saying "Unreasonable monster homes are a problem and the council has gone a long way to placing some reasonable restrictions on them."

The council decided not to vote on their own revised ordinance.

Instead voting on the original plan built by the Millcreek Planning Commission. Jani Iwamoto poured over thousands of emails and petitions from her residents in her district before voting. Iwamoto said after the ordinance passed that she doesn't know whether she is relieved of the outcome "because I know not everyone is going to be happy."

The County Council says the ordinance is not perfect and revisions are likely. They want to give it a year and see what works and what doesn't. The debate over restricting the size of super-sized homes in Millcreek has come to an end for now. The Salt Lake County Council voted Tuesday on an ordinance that will restrict the height of new homes.
