OREM, Utah -
54-year old Steve Strate admitted he gunned down his brother in law but told a dispatcher he'd acted in self defense. That's just part of what's on a 911 call released by Orem police. Wednesday, police released a 911 call from the suspect, Steve Strait, 54, who allegedly shot his brother-in-law Marvin Sidwell, 51, on Sunday afternoon at around 12:30 p.m. at Sidwell's elderly mother's home. Strate calmly called police, claimed he had shot Sidwell six or seven times and he wanted to surrender. Before officers arrived, Strate told the dispatcher that Sidwell had attacked him with a chair and that's why he opened fire.
Steve remains in the Utah County Jail on one million dollars bail.
