SALT LAKE CITY—
A bill proposed by a Utah legislator would give parents the option to choose between two types of sex education for their children. The first type includes education about abstinence and sexually-transmitted diseases. The second type includes education about abstinence, STDs and contraception. Rep. Lynn Hemingway proposed the controversial bill, which is supported by Planned Parenthood of Utah. According to Planned Parenthood, pregnancy and STD rates are on the rise in Utah."We're looking at this as another tool in the toolbox to make sure that parents and young people have all the information that they need," said Melissa Bird of the Planned Parenthood Council.
Public comments on the proposed bill will be taken at a town hall meeting Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m. at the Murray City Library, 166 East 5300 South. FOX 13's Katy Carlyle has more.
