SALT LAKE CITY -
Salt Lake City chief prosecutor Sim Gill formally announced Thursday his intention to run as a Democratic candidate for Salt Lake District Attorney. Gill, 49, is now the second democrat to run against incumbent District Attorney Lohra Miller, a republican. Gill previously ran for the office in 2006, but lost to Miller. Gill said he will reclaim the District Attorney's office for the Salt Lake County taxpayers.
"I don't think you have to go very far to realize that the headlines and the chaos that's out there is distracting away from what this office can truly be," said Gill.
Gill also said the citizens of Salt Lake County deserve new leadership.
"We are on the front steps of this office because we're here to take this office back for the citizens of Salt Lake County, who deserve and expect much more from their elected officials than what this district attorney is providing for the citizens," said Gill.
Former Salt Lake County Assistant District Attorney Greg Skordas, who is now a defense attorney and also a democrat, has also announced his intentions to run for the office.
