Tickets for raves are not cheap and cost $50 or more per person, but according to event planners, expensive tickets do not keep teenagers away. Utah police officers who work security at Saltair said the venue is safe and well patrolled. There is an ambulance nearby and concert goers are patted down, however, there is no age limit and the drug ecstasy remains a problem.
"The question is how do we stop it from occurring and can we, or do we try to minimize the availability or the ability of these young people to use drugs and if they choose to do so, do we provide a safe environment for this to occur," said Lt. Don Hutson.
"It is a big drug scene if you allow it to be, I mean it is what you make it," said Austin, who is a frequent raver, "You go in there and have a good time and do what you want. you can take a lot of Ecstasy and die, you know, whatever. It's up to you, it's your rave for the night. No one's going to tell you what to do, how to dress."
One of the biggest concerts in Utah will be May 28. DJ Benny Banasi is an Emmy award winner and one of the top DJs in the world is expected to draw thousands of people at the Saltair.
