SPRINGVILLE, Utah—
How does it feel to be a millionaire? Jason Hargett got a phone call at 8:15 a.m. asking if he could be in a golf tournament at Red Ledges starting at 10:00 a.m. and he said no. A few minutes later, he called back and said he could be there. Hargett didn't have his own clubs with him, so he opted to use his brother's clubs. He then proceeded to do what every golfer dreams of -- sank it."I [kept] thinking it didn't happen, after it happened. I'm like, there's no way that just happened," Hargett told KSTU. "The only hole in one I've gotten was on a par four. I've never gotten one on a par three. And to just be in that moment, I can't even explain it."
"We were just talking about that outside," said Amyee Hargett. "Jason said, I'm 35 and I'm a millionaire, and I was like awe, that sounds so cool...surreal."
Jayson moved to Springville from California in high school. He married his first love, Amyee, and they now have four children. Jason has worked at the Ruby River Steak House in Provo for 15 years and on Tuesday, he became a millionaire.
"Honestly I don't even know," said Jason. "Don't even know."
It started with a competition hole. The five closest to the hole on a par three would be in a shootout at the end of the tournament and Jason had nailed it.
"Which was just random," said Jason. "I got a good kick, I missed the green, it kicked off the side and rolled down." Jason was the second of five to hit for the million.
"I mean I hit it, as good as I've honestly ever hit a 9 iron. The green was slow from back to front. Jason hit it with a draw just above the cup.
"All of a sudden the camera people threw up their arms and Bosco and I looked at each other and like, wow! That really just went in!" said Jason.
"And then we just went running and I think he hurt his shoulder when he tackled me
"He first texted me and I knew he was doing the contest," said Amyee. "So I was waiting to hear and he texted me, your life has just changed."
The Hargetts became millionaires so fast and so suddenly that they honestly couldn't say what their plans are. They did mention paying off the house, college funds for their children and a donation to Mark Eaton's charity. It all sounded pretty practical.
