DUGWAY, Utah -
The U.S. Army says it will consolidate testing on unmanned drones at the Dugway Proving Grounds in Utah's west desert. Military brass are planning a dedication ceremony for a new center Wednesday at the Rhode Island-sized military zone, about 65 miles southwest of Salt Lake City. Dugway's primary mission is defending troops against biological and chemical attacks. It has perfected devices such as battlefield sensors and charcoal-lined soldier suits.
Now add drones. The base will test new technologies and larger payloads for unmanned aircraft systems, and ways to get the drones faster to troops around the world.
About 1,400 civilians and contractors work at Dugway.
