NEPHI, Utah -
A newly-formed strike force in Juab and Sanpete counties arrested nearly two dozen suspected drug dealers in central Utah Wednesday. Although three suspects remain at large, detectives say the operation was a big success. "Yeah, for a population of about 5,500, to be able to come in and take away some very serious drug dealers out of our community is a huge success," said Chief Mike Morgan of the Nephi City police department.
Officers involved with the sweep began arresting people just after sunrise Wednesday.
The task force was assembled in response to what police say is a growing drug problem in their small, central Utah communities. Since the autumn of 2009, 29 people allegedly sold illicit drugs to undercover officers. Cops arrested 23 of the suspected drug dealers during Wednesday's raids. Cops say
The only suspects not arrested in Wednesday's round up were Jarold Paul Butler, Ronald Jay Davis and Melissa Sue Dalton, who is a registered sex offender. Since FOX 13 began covering the story, police have received dozens of phone calls about the suspects, including calls from Davis and Dalton who are apparently arranging their surrenders to police.
If you know the whereabouts of Jarold Butler, call Nephi police at (435) 623-1344.
