PAYSON, Utah - Grief counselors were on hand for students in Utah County after four teenagers died in a weekend car crash. Vanessa Estrada was in the 8th grade at Mt. Nebo Junior High School. The driver, 16-year-old Jose Flores, attended an alternative high school in the Alpine School District. The crash happened some time after 1:30 Sunday morning along Emma Park road near Price Canyon. The sheriff's office says Flores was driving at nearly 100 miles an hour when he failed to make a turn. The car slammed into a concrete barrier. Authorities believe three of the teens died instantly, but that Flores survived the initial impact and tried to crawl away. He eventually succumbed to his injuries.

The Alpine School District says Flores was part of a student group that was training to run a half marathon together next month. As to 13-year-old Vanessa Estrada, Nebo School District officials say she was an outgoing girl who was well liked among her classmates. A spokesman for the Utah County Sheriff's Office says he doesn't know if the other two victims attended school. Their names are Manuel Gonzalez, 19, and Mauro Lopez, 16.
