BIG COTTONWOOD CANYON, Utah—
A father and son remain hospitalized in serious condition following a car crash Thursday night in Big Cottonwood Canyon and witnesses tell police the wreck appeared to be the result of street racing. Detectives said it looks like the victims will survive and are now trying to determine exactly what caused the near fatal crash.The accident happened at about 8:30 p.m. Thursday night near the Dogwood Camping area when a Lotus automobile slammed head on into a BMW SUV that was heading down the canyon.
Witnesses told detectives the Lotus was following a white Porche and the cars looked like they were racing.
The 46-year old driver of the Lotus and his 13-year-old son were both hospitalized with serious head injuries and both are expected now to survive.
Police are now trying to piece together exactly what happened and if anyone will face charges.
