CACHE COUNTY, Utah - A convicted meth dealer awaiting sentencing at the Cache County Jail may now face more serious charges after his alleged attempted escape from the prison. The man, Doug Francom, was scheduled to be transported down to Salt Lake for a federal court hearing Tuesday, when deputies said they uncovered the escape plot.

They allegedly found three homemade keys taped to the tongue of Francom's shoe and said the copies were good. Agents said Francom planned the escape with three other people and at some point he was going to break out of a secure jail van and flee to a waiting getaway car.

Francom was on FOX 13 news earlier this year, arrested in a large meth sting operation. He rammed his truck into police cars trying to escape and was eventually convicted on federal, drug distribution charges.

Instead of probably serving his drug term at a medium security, federal prison, Francom is now looking at probably being sent to a maximum security facility, with additional years tacked on to his sentence, if he's convicted of this attempted escape charge.

FOX 13's Scott McKane reports.
