TOOELE, Utah - The Utah Highway Patrol's Tooele Office is tracking the speed limits of drivers on I-80 from Lakepoint to Wendover and surrounding roads. The top speed so far this year is 126 mph. The UHP is understaffed in that area because it is not very populous, so many drivers think they can get away with speeding. Utah Highway Patrol, Lt. Troy Marx said, "It's easy to go fast, It's wide open, it's straight. There are no curves."

Trooper Roger Daniels of Utah High patrol said he catches drivers speeding every day. "Typical speeds are high 80s, low 90s and quite a few 100 MPH," said Daniels. Last year, UHP Tooele Office put 354 people in its 100 Mile an Hour club and according to the record, they are on their way to match that number this year.
