UTA Getting $91m in Stimulus Money For Light-Rail
SALT LAKE CITY - The U.S. Transportation Department has announced that the Utah Transit Authority will get $90.9 Million in stimulus funds for a light-rail project. Transportation Secretary Ray Lahood made the announcement Thursday. The money will go toward the Mid-Jordan Light-Rail Project, a 10.6-mile line that is expected to open by December 2011. When complete, the project will include nine stations, more than 3,000 park-and-ride spaces and 28 transit vehicles.

The line will join with UTA's Sandy/Salt Lake TRAX line.

The Federal Transit Administration already was going to provide more than $428 million of the project's $535 million price tag. The stimulus money isn't in addition to those federal funds, but now federal money will come sooner.
