Utah Minute Men Discuss Options on Immigration Bill at Emergency Meeting
WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah - Utah Minute Men held a meeting to discuss a course of action Monday night in response to a new immigration law, Senate Bill 81, which allows local officers the option to cross-deputize as federal immigration officers. About 40 people met at the meeting at West Valley City Library and Senate Bill 81 was the main topic. Last week, Salt Lake City Police Chief Chris Burbank and Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker assurred Latinos that local policemen will not act as federal immigration officers.

Utah Minute Men said that's turning a blind eye to crime. A different, new law, House Bill 64 is designed to go after those felony crimes committed by illegal immigrants. House Bill 64 creates a strike task force in the attorney generals office that will go after human trafficking, drugs and fraud. The Utah Minute Men are still upset about this, however, because the new bill will enforce both House Bill 64 and Sen. Bill 81, which can cause confusion. The Utah Minute Men said at the meeting that they want more enforcement.

The attorney general's office put out a summary explaining the facts and fiction about both bills. You can find this summary at fox13now.com
