The celebrated Utah High School marching band that lost a teacher in a bus crash last month is on a winning streak. The American Fork High School marching band won the state championship on Friday, then took first place in a western regional competition on Saturday. The 225-member band now must raise about $250,000 if it chooses to travel to Indiana for the National Championship next Friday.
The band previously hadn't planned to compete in Indianapolis. But band leader John Miller says the weekend victories have prompted some last-minute reconsideration.
The school won another competition just days after the Oct. 10 crash on an Idaho highway that toppled the bus full of student band members and took the life of woodwinds instructor Heather Christensen.
