SALT LAKE CITY - Thierry Fischer is now the new Utah Symphony director to fill in the spot once held by Keith Lockhart for 11 years. At Abravanel Hall, President and CEO Melia Tourangeau announced Thursday that Thierry Fischer, of Switzerland, has been named the new Music Director starting immediately. Fischer, who has been the Principal Conductor of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and Chief Conductor of the Nagoya Philharmonic, was unanimously selected by the 12-member search committee. "I think if the energy of the sounds, and the strength of our concerts can help us and the community, sort of, push our boundaries -- that's what I'm attracted to being a music director," said Fischer.
