SALT LAKE CITY -
A Utah climber reached the summit of Mt. Everest on Tuesday and he is only 17 years old. The boy, John Collinson, grew up at the Snowbird Ski Resort and his goal is to be the youngest person to climb the seven summits in a year, the tallest peaks on the seven continents. On Tuesday, he posted on his blog that he reached the summit of Mt. Everest, peak number two out of seven. Climbing is Collinson's passion ever since he was a child.
"My whole life I've been different, wanting to live life instead of watching it on TV," said Collinson. "It's so cool to connect with nature."
Collinson's hard core physical and mental training paid off when he reached the summit of Mt. Everest on Tuesday.
"To me summitting Everest is something I've only dreamed of," Collinson said.
Collinson accomplished what few climbers have on Mt. Everest. More than 200 people have died trying to summit Mt. Everest, proving it is a dangerous and difficult task.
"Being 17 years old and having accomplished what John has accomplished is a big feat for anybody, let alone 17," said Jerry Mika, Super Sherpa Base Camp manager.
