SALT LAKE CITY—
Utahns from all over the state were at the State Capitol Saturday afternoon to protest federal public land policies. For a second year in a row, organizers held what they called the 'Take Back Utah Rally'. Thousands of people participated in this year's event. State lawmakers spoke at the rally including Representative Mike Noel, who is trying to use eminent domain to claim federal land."Do it in a responsible manner, but keep the lands open. Bring your signs, write you Congressman, be involved," Noel said. Environmentalists spoke out after last year's rally, arguing the land is for everyone. "I think the question we ask is who are you taking them back from? These are public lands managed on behalf of all Americans," said Stephan Bloch.
Protesters said they care about public lands but the rules and regulations are too strict and at times impossible to enjoy them. "The restrictions are needed in a way, but in a way, they're way too restrictive," said Rose Slaugh.
