SALT LAKE CITY -
The home of Olympic cyclist David Zabriskie was ransacked and several items were taken while he was away racing in the Tour of California. Police say the value of what was taken amounts to more than $200,000. Among the things stolen are a Subaru Outback, Toyota Scion, 13 bicycles, MAC Books and a flat screen TV.
"A bunch of other really valuable items as well as some irreplaceable items," said Sgt. Robin Snyder of Salt Lake City Police Department.
While his family says they can deal with the material things, it's his awards and other sentimental items they are struggling to cope with.
"Trophies, that he'd gotten since he was 16-years-oldÂ…are now just gone," said Sheree Hamik, David Zabriskie's mother. "It's just very upsetting to me that people are out there that do this sort of thing."
His Beijing Olympic silver ring with his initials, DZ, engraved, his Italia race medal, an Olympic Seiko watch and seven Marvel sideshow statues were also taken. The statues are limited edition and very unique, they are marble, stand about two feet tall and depict characters such as Tomb Raider Lara Croft, The Punisher, Alien and Ironman.
Salt Lake City Police are now asking for the public's help in finding the stolen goods.
"There are so many distinctive items that we'll be checking all of the pawn shops as well as online auction sites," said Snyder.
They are asking if the public comes across any of these items they call the Tips for Cash line at 801.799.INFO.
