Law enforcement officers from all over the state and mountain west gathered Friday afternoon in Kane County to honor a fallen fellow officer shot and killed in the line of duty last week. Deputy Brian Harris was allegedly gunned down by 23-year-old Scott Curley, who was captured Monday after a massive manhunt in the desert area of Kanab and Fredonia, Ariz.

Curley waived extradition to Arizona where he will be tried on first degree murder charges.

About 5,000 people, including family, friends and fellow officers attended the funeral service of Harris at Valley High School in Orderville. Following the service, there was a long procession with a military gun salute at Glendale City Cemetary.

Thursday night people lined up for the first of two public viewings for Harris. He is described as a pillar of the community, a go-to guy for anyone who needed help.

"He was just an amazing person and if you wanted help he'd help you and he just made this town safe for anyone to be here and like I said he'd do anything for you," said Brenna Crofts, a friend of the Harris family.
