A woman was critically injured after a pickup truck collided with another car and veered into a group of cyclists Wednesday morning in Draper. Unified Fire Department Capt. Clint Smith said just before 7 a.m. two vehicles traveling along Highland Drive near 900 East were involved in an accident. He said as a result of the accident, one of the vehicles lost a front tire, which caused it to veer into a group of ten female cyclists. One of the cyclists, a 29-year-old female, was critically injured and was taken by helicopter to the University of Utah Trauma Center.

The woman sustained a direct hit from the accident and now has severe head injuries and fractures.

Smith said three other cyclists had minor injuries and were evaluated and released on the scene.

"This was a unfortunate and very traumatic experience for all of the riders and drivers involved this morning," Smith said.

Highland Drive is now closed between 250 East and Vestry Road while crews clean up the accident.
