SALT LAKE CITY—
A new poll shows that a majority of Utahns support anti-discrimination ordinances providing equal employment and housing opportunities statewide for Utah's gay community. The poll was conducted in light of a bill being proposed in the Utah State Legislature. The bill's sponsor Sen. Ben McAdams says the proposal will not get the debate it needs because he says it has been locked in a Senate Rules Committee for the past three weeks.
Sen. McAdams is pleading with his colleagues to get the bill out of committee and into a hearing for debate. Opponents argue, however, that the jurisdiction should remain on the local level.
According to a recent UtahPolicy.com poll, 71 percent of Utahns approve of anti-discrimination ordinances for the entire state. about 73 percent of those Utahns are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 71 percent are Republicans and 66 percent are conservatives.
