WASHINGTON D.C. -
Sen. Orrin G. Hatch (R- Utah) announced the details today of an upcoming Economic Forum: The Fiscal Future of America, which will be held at Utah Valley University on August 28 at 9 a.m. The Forum will be a discussion of the mid- and long-term outlook for the federal budget deficit, debt levels, and the economy; along with the effect of recent and proposed legislation, such as the stimulus bill, the auto and other bailouts, and health care reform.
Hatch will be joined at the Forum by Steve Forbes, editor-in-chief of Forbes Magazine, and former presidential candidate in 1996 and 2000; and Douglas Holtz Eakin, former Director of the Congressional Budget Office, who also served as the chief economist for the Presidents Council of Economic Advisors.
Our nation is at a critical juncture, stated Senator Hatch. The runaway spending train enveloping Washington, D. C., is threatening to decimate the future of our children and for all Americans for generations to come. My office has received literally thousands of letters, phone calls, and emails from Utahns who are extremely concerned about Americas fiscal future. I envision this Forum as a way for our citizens to have an opportunity to not only listen to some speakers who have been at the forefront of our economy, but to ask questions of the experts and provide feedback to me that I can arm myself with for this fight in Washington.
Some of the topics expected to be covered at the Forum include: Is Capitalism Dead?, How to Save Social Security for our Grandchildren, Why America Must Reform Health Care, The Basics of the Federal Budget: Where it Comes From and Where It Goes, Financing Americas Debt: Who Holds Americas Mortgage?, Are Entitlement Programs a Cancer on our Future?, and Why Economic Growth and Productivity Are Key to Solving Americas Financial Problems.
The Forum is being sponsored jointly by the Woodbury School of Business and the Center for the Study of Ethics. The Forum will be held at the Ragan Theatre on the UVU Campus.
