The Davis County Fair Park is the place to be this weekend to see the fur fly at the U.S. Dog Agility Association's Rocky Mountain Regional Championships. The best dog agility teams from Utah, Arizona, California, New Mexico, Colorado and other surrounding states will be going nose to nose for their shot at being crowned the Rocky Mountain Champion!
Dogs and handlers will test their skills at qualifying for the $10,000 Dog Agility Steeplechase and the Grand Prix of Dog Agility - the crown jewel of the sport.
To be successful, dog and handler teams will need to run each course perfectly, as fast as possible, without accruing any faults. If successful, they qualify to run with the best in the world at the World Championships in Louisville, KY Oct. 12 - 17, 2010.
Dog agility is an exciting and visual sport pitting one dog and handler team against another in a race against the clock. Handlers navigate their dogs through a never-before seen obstacle course consisting of an A-frame, see-saw, hurdles of all kinds, tunnels and "slalom" weave poles while pushing to turn in the fastest time and avoid faults along the way. Faults are assessed similar to equestrian competitions.
Admission is free each day, Friday, June 18 through Sunday, June 20 on the south grass area. The action begins at 8 a.m. and runs through 4 p.m. The
Davis County Fair Park is located 151 South 1100 West, Farmington, UT 84025.
