SALT LAKE CITY -- Emergency workers participated in a mass causality incident drill on Wednesday at the state fair grounds.

Firefighters and police from across Utah gathered for the drill to see how well they can respond if a mass shooting ever happened in Utah.

Jasen Asay, with the Salt Lake City Fire Department, said they will be doing several drills over the next month throughout the Salt Lake Valley.

"These types of incidents don't happen very often, so when they do happen, it is important that our responders respond and can work together and can do the things that need to do," Asay said.

The drills help the agencies learn how to work together and come to an agreement on how to do specific tasks.

The drill on Wednesday began at the stage when dispatch would call out the responders. Salt Lake City police officers also responded to practice taking a suspect into custody.
