Dan Pope is the Fox13 News Meteorologist on Good Day Utah Weekend Edition alongside Amy Nay
“Amy is a highly talented and caring news anchor. We have a lot of fun together, but when the news and weather are serious, we are all business,” said Pope.
Dan wanted to be a weather forecaster from the time he was about five years old and decided he wanted to make a career of it as a TV Meteorologist when he turned 12. He would later graduate with a degree in Meteorology from the University of Utah.
Dan believes in accurate weather forecasting, while highlighting the forecast in an entertaining and understandable way. His experience also includes working for the Weather Channel, as well as in places such as Wisconsin and Oregon.
After living and working outside of Utah for a while, coming home to the Beehive State was a thrill for “Dan the Weatherman” (as he is called by many of his colleagues and friends).
“Living my dream and working here in Utah is the best,” he says. “I really enjoy forecasting the many microclimates this region has. The four seasons make predicting the weather challenging and exciting.”
When Dan is not forecasting the weather, he enjoys flying his several drones, participating in photography, studying astronomy, geology and all of the sciences. He loves fishing, four wheeling in the backcountry, gardening, watching movies with his wife and having visits with his grandchildren.
Dan says he is still learning everything he can about science and the world around us (and even beyond here into the universe), and believes that more accurate weather forecasting will come with the revolution of computing, AI and discoveries yet to be made.
