SALT LAKE CITY — "Zion" was selected as the new name for the Hogle Zoo's new baby zebra after the zoo sought suggestions from the community via its Facebook page. Thousands of people answered the call to name the zoo's new addition born on January 15.

It's no surprise that Zion has special meaning in Utah, being one of the state's Mighty 5 National Parks and signifying the "highest point," which makes sense for this mountain zebra.

“We also love Zion National Park," explained African Savanna keeper, Michelle Olandese. "Wherever Zion ends up with the SSP (Species Survival Plan) he’ll have a connection to Utah."
