LITTLE COTTONWOOD CANYON, Utah — Little Cottonwood Canyon has reopened to traffic nearly a full day after a large mudslide closed down SR-210.

Utah Department of Transportation cameras captured the mudslide blanketing the road near mile marker 7 on Tuesday. The mudslide measured about 4-feet deep and 100 feet wide, according to a UDOT tweet.

Crews brought in heavy equipment on Wednesday morning to clear mud from the road and make sure conditions were safe for drivers before attempting to schedule a reopening plan for the canyon.

The road had previously been closed all Tuesday due to avalanche mitigation as warmer temperatures in northern Utah have caused slides. It remained closed overnight and into Wednesday.

Overnight, UDOT said debris flow continued, making for an even bigger mess that needs to the cleared off the road before traffic can resume in the area.

Despite the road closures, two people could be seen walking right up the slide and taking pictures Tuesday.

SR-190 in Big Cottonwood Canyon is now open to traffic with no avalanche closures currently planned.
