CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) Christian Pulisic ended a five-month scoring drought for club and country with his first international goal since November 2024, Folarin Balogun broke a second-half tie and the United States beat Senegal 3-2 Sunday in the Americans next-to-last World Cup warmup match.

Pulisic set up Sergio Dests opener in the seventh minute, then made it 2-0 off a Ricardo Pepi pass in the 20th. Pulisic took a touch, rounded goalkeeper Mory Diaw and slotted into an open net from a tight angle for his 33rd goal in 85 international appearances.

The top American player, Pulisic had finished his AC Milan season scoreless in a career-high 19 club games since Dec. 28 and was without a goal in eight straight U.S. matches. Pulisic ran to a corner flag, dropped to his knees and repeatedly pumped his fists.

Sadio Man scored twice following American mistakes, extending his Senegal record with 54 international goals. He beat goalkeeper Matt Turner at the far post in the 44th off a Habib Diarra pass that followed Antonee Robinsons giveaway, then tapped the ball into the net in the 52nd after Nicolas Jackson had lifted it over onrushing goalkeeper Chris Brady.

Brady entered among 10 U.S. changes at the start of the second half in his international debut.

Balogun, another second-half sub, had a goal disallowed for offside in the 49th, then got his ninth international goal in the 63rd after Tim Weahs cross deflected off a foot of Moustapha Mbow.

The No. 16 U.S. plays 10th-ranked Germany on June 6, six days before the Americans open the tournament against Paraguay. No. 14 Senegal faces Saudi Arabia in a June 9 friendly and start against France on June 16.

The American starting lineup averaged 44 international appearances, the teams highest since the October 2017 loss at Trinidad and Tobago that ended the U.S. streak of seven straight World Cup appearances, according to Opta.

Turner, the American starting goalkeeper at the 2022 World Cup, made just his second U.S. appearance since a 4-0 loss to Switzerland last June.

In the absence of Chris Richards, sidelined by an ankle injury, the U.S. started Alex Freeman, Mark McKenzie and captain Tim Ream in a three center back formation. Gio Reyna made his first start for club or country since Dec. 19.

The U.S. men's national team's World Cup roster is finally here, and it includes familiar stars and several surprise omissions.

The 26-man squad features AC Milan star Christian Pulisic, Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie, Bournemouth captain Tyler Adams, and Crystal Palace defender Chris Richards alongside 13 players making their World Cup debuts.

The veterans bring leadership and experience. Adams helped Bournemouth to the clubs best finish in its history, while Richards most recently helped his club to an FA Cup victory last season.

Among the returning stars is Gio Reyna, who was at the center of a high-profile controversy during the 2022 tournament, when his parents publicly clashed with then-coach Gregg Berhalter ultimately ending a 30-year relationship.

Berhalters son, Sebastian, earned his first call-up. He was named to the MLS Best XI last year after leading the Vancouver Whitecaps to their first MLS Cup berth.

The roster leans heavily on defense, with 10 players in defensive roles.

Surprise omissions from the roster include Lyon midfielder Tanner Tessmann and Middlesbroughs Aidan Morris, who could have bolstered the nations slim midfield options.

Another notable exclusion is Real Salt Lake midfielder Diego Luna, who was featured prominently in several USMNT World Cup advertising campaigns.

One possible reason for Lunas omission could be the inclusion of Club Amrica winger Alejandro Zendejas. Zendejas is among Liga MXs most dangerous forwards, with 12 goals and seven assists.

The U.S., under head coach Mauricio Pochettino, will open its World Cup campaign June 12 in Los Angeles against Paraguay, travel to Seattle for a June 19 match against Australia, and return to Los Angeles to face Trkiye on June 25 to close out the group stage.

Fans will face hefty prices to attend these matches, with some tickets costing thousands of dollars.

The United States' roster for the upcoming FIFA World Cup in North America was leaked on Friday afternoon. Notably, Real Salt Lake stars Diego Luna and 19-year-old Zavier Gozo's names were missing.

"I think it's tough," RSL head coach Pablo Mastroeni said after the team's 1-1 draw at Minnesota on Saturday.

Gozo has never appeared for the US senior team, but he was reportedly in consideration to earn a spot on this summer's squad after dominating Major League Soccer play during the first half of the season. The West Valley City native has six goals and five assists in 14 starts for his hometown squad.

"I think form, going into the World Cup, is one of the criteria that's critical," said Mastroeni. "He might have been a long shot, but I felt like his attributes to a 26-man roster would be really good in moments you need to change the game."

Luna began the MLS season battling injuries, but he has returned to the pitch and shown the form that has earned him back-to-back trips to the MLS All-Star Game. He's tallied four goals and three assists in six starts and nine games played for RSL.

"It's an interesting decision for me," Mastroeni said.

The California native made 17 appearances for the red, white, and blue on the international stage in 2017. He scored four goals while donning his country's colors.

"In 2025, the national team really leaned on him. Both as an attacking player but also as a mentality piece."

Despite Luna and Gozo's accolades in 2026, they will both reportedly have to wait to play in a World Cup.

"To be fair, they're both in a good way, but they both know that the only way to get back there is to do well with us here at RSL," Mastroeni said. "Disappointed for them, hurt for them, but I know they will bounce back."

The official announcement for the USMNT World Cup roster is scheduled for this Tuesday at 1 p.m.

In a surprising decision, Real Salt Lake star Diego Luna was left off the U.S. Men's National Team for the upcoming World Cup.

Luna was not among those named in Tuesday's event in New York City in which the team was officially announced.

The Athletic first reported last week that both Luna and teammate Zavier Gozo were not included in coach Mauricio Pochettinos 26-man roster.

A source at the tome told FOX 13 News that the report appeared to be accurate, which was confirmed Tuesday.

While Gozo was a long shot to make the team, Luna was considered to be a near lock following his numerous appearances with the U.S. Men's National team last year in which he played in 18 matches.

With Real Salt Lake this season, Luna has four goals and three assists.

The World Cup is set to begin on June 11, with the U.S. taking the pitch for the first time against Paraguay on June 12 in Los Angeles.

The World Cup is now just weeks away, and growing concerns about an Ebola outbreak in Africa are complicating preparations for players, coaches, and fans.

The outbreak began in the Democratic Republic of Congo. None of the players or head coach from the country's national team have spent any time in the DRC since well before the outbreak began. Most have been playing in France, while others are on English Premier League teams.

A planned three-day training camp and farewell celebration for the team in the DRC has been canceled due to the disease. The team will still participate in World Cup warm-up matches in Belgium and Spain in early June.

The U.S. State Department said players and coaches will follow the same protocol of testing and isolation as American citizens returning to the U.S. from the region.

On Thursday, the Department of Homeland Security announced all flights from affected regions will be required to enter the country through Washington Dulles International Airport for enhanced screening.

Fans planning to travel from Africa for the World Cup face additional hurdles. Those who have already received their visa will have to show they've spent at least 21 days outside of the DRC, Uganda, or South Sudan before entering the U.S.

Those who do not yet have a visa will likely have a tougher time obtaining one. The U.S. embassy in the DRC has paused all visa services, and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has banned all travel for foreign nationals who have been in the affected countries within the last three weeks.

The State Department said there will be no dispensation for fans, and they will not be allowed to travel until the ban is potentially lifted. There is no clear indication if or when that could happen.

We are still over 20 days from the FIFA World Cup starting, but Provo residents are getting a chance to see some of soccer's brightest stars up close ahead of the games.

BYU has announced it will be hosting two international friendlies ahead of the World Cup.

BYU Athletics made the announcement in conjunction with the Korea Republic Men's National Soccer Team. Both games will be played at South Field on May 30 and June 3.

Korea Republic will face Trinidad and Tobago on May 30 and El Salvador on June 3. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.

Tickets for the May 30 match go on sale Tuesday at noon. Tickets for the June 3 match will be available at 2:00 p.m.

LONDON (AP) As the sun rose Saturday on the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, a crowd erupted in cheers at Stonehenge, where the ancient monument in southern England has clocked the summer solstice over thousands of years.

The orange ball crested the northeast horizon behind the Heel Stone, the entrance to the stone circle, and shone its beam of light into the center of one of the worlds most famous prehistoric monuments. The solstice is one of the few occasions each year when visitors are allowed to walk among the stones, which are otherwise fenced off.

The crowd gathered before dawn at the World Heritage Site to mark the start of summer in the Northern Hemisphere, beating the heat during the U.K.'s first amber heat-health alert issued since September 2023. Temperatures later topped 33 degrees Celsius (91.4 degrees Fahrenheit) in Surrey, 80 miles (128 kilometers) east of Stonehenge, the hottest temperature recorded in the U.K. so far this year.

About 25,000 sun devotees and other revelers, including druids, pagans, hippies, locals and tourists, showed up, according to English Heritage which operates the site. More than 400,000 others around the world watched a livestream.

This morning was a joyous and peaceful occasion with the most beautiful sunrise," said Richard Dewdney, head of operations at Stonehenge. It is fantastic to see Stonehenge continuing to enchant and connect people.

Stonehenge was built in stages 5,000 years ago on the flat lands of Salisbury Plain approximately 75 miles (120 kilometers) southwest of London. The unique stone circle was erected in the late Neolithic period about 2,500 B.C.

Some of the so-called bluestones are known to have come from the Preseli Hills in southwest Wales, nearly 150 miles (240 kilometers) away, and the altar stone was recently discovered to have come from northern Scotland, some 460 miles (740 kilometers) away.

The sites meaning has been vigorously debated. Theories range from it being a coronation place for Danish kings, a druid temple, a cult center for healing, or an astronomical computer for predicting eclipses and solar events.

The most generally accepted interpretation is that it was a temple aligned with movements of the sun lining up perfectly with the summer and winter solstices.

While Utah won't host any World Cup games when the massive soccer competition heads to North America in 2026, the state may still have a chance to shine with its hospitality.

FIFA, the organization that puts on the World Cup, has officially selected two Salt Lake City sites as possible Team Base Camps during the tournament.

Base camps are where the 48 teams establish what FIFA calls a "home away from home" during the weeks-long tournament and events leading up to the global spectacle. The camps serve as a hub for teams as they travel to different locations for three games during the first round of the World Cup.

Twenty-four locations have been selected to possibly serve as Team Base Camps in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, including the University of Utah (Hyatt Regency Salt Lake City) and the RSL Training Centre (RSL Training Academy Residence).

Even if a city is not staging matches, a participating team coming to stay creates a strong personal bond with the competition for people locally," said Heimo Schirgi, Chief Operating Officer of the World Cup "It will see them adopt their guests as a second team during the tournament, thereby connecting even more people to the FIFA World Cup.

Teams that qualify for the World Cup will work with individual cities to determine where the base camps will be located, meaning that while Salt Lake City is currently on the list to possibly host teams during the competition, it may not actually do so.

The list of 24 possible base camps is also expected to grow with other options in North America.

France moved on to his second straight World Cup final after a 2-0 victory over surprise semifinalist Morocco on Tuesday.

The defending World Cup champions scored in the fifth minute of the game. Theo Hernandez headed a ball into the back of the net after Morocco's defense failed to clear it from the penalty box.

Morocco nearly tied the game right before the half, but the bicycle kick ricocheted off the goalpost.

France put the game out of reach in the 79th minute when Randal Kolo Muani scored off a deflection.

Morocco would apply pressure in the final minutes, but they couldn't get the ball by the French goalkeeper.

France will take on Argentina in the finals on Sunday. Both teams are seeking their third World Cup championships.

Morocco will play Croatia in the third-place game on Saturday.

Argentina will play for a World Cup championship after a dominant 3-0 win over Croatia in Tuesday's semifinal.

Argentina's first goal came from a foul by Croatia on Julin lvarez in the penalty box. Lionel Messi buried the penalty kick into the back of the net in the 32nd minute.

It was Messi's fifth goal this World Cup. Three of the goals have come from penalty kicks.

Alvarez's goal in the 39th minute gave Argentina a 2-0 lead going into halftime.

Croatia had an excellent chance to cut the deficit in half in the 62nd minute. A free kick was sent into the box and nearly headed into the goal, but Argentina's defense came up big after goalkeeper Emiliano Martnez deflected the ball.

About five minutes later, Argentina put the game out of reach. Alvarez scored his second goal with an assist from Messi.

A jubilant Messi couldn't stop smiling after the game. The World Cup is the only major trophy that has eluded him in his illustrious career.

France and Morocco play in the other semi-final on Wednesday. The winner will face Argentina in the final on Sunday, while the loser will play against Croatia in Saturday's 3rd-place game.

Croatia pulled off a stunning upset in the quarterfinals of the 2022 World Cup, defeating favorites Brazil in a penalty shootout.

The game went into overtime after both teams failed to score in regulation.

Brazil struck first in overtime. Neymar weaved his way into the penalty box in the 106th minute and put the ball into the back of the net.

Croatia would continue to apply pressure, knowing they were minutes away from being eliminated from the tournament.

Bruno Petkovic scored from the top of the penalty box in the 117th minute.

After 122 minutes of play, the game would be determined in a penalty shootout. Croatia scored on their first attempt. Brazil missed its first shot.

Croatia would go on to make their next three kicks. Brazil was eliminated on their fourth kick after Marquinhos' shot bounced off the post.

Croatia will take on the winner of the match between Argentina and the Netherlands, who defeated USA in the previous round.

LUSAIL, Qatar (AP) Lionel Messi stood with his hands on his hips near the center circle, looking stone-faced as Saudi Arabias jubilant players ran in all directions around him after scoring one of the biggest World Cup upsets ever against Argentina.

The South American champion and one of the tournament favorites slumped to a 2-1 loss against Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, in a deflating start to Messis quest to win the one major title that has eluded him.

Saudi Arabia's comeback joins the list of other major World Cup upsets: Cameroons 1-0 win over an Argentina team led by Diego Maradona in the opening game of the 1990 World Cup, Senegals 1-0 victory over titleholder France 1-0 in the 2002 tournament opener or the United States beating England by the same score in 1950.

Prior to the match we were anointed as favorites," Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni said. "But this sort of stuff can happen in a World Cup.

Messi gave Argentina the lead in the 10th minute with a coolly dispatched penalty and the match had the makings of a routine win for the defending Copa America champion, which were on a 36-match unbeaten run.

The unlikely victory was sealed by a somersault by Aldawsari, who brought down a high ball just inside the penalty area, spun Nahuel Molina with the help of a ricochet, jinked past Leandro Paredes and drove a powerful shot to the far corner in the 53rd.

A stunned Messi watched as green-clad fans from Saudi Arabia, Qatars neighbor, celebrated in disbelief in the stands. Saudi Arabias substitutes swarmed onto the field.

Messi put Argentina ahead from the penalty spot after the video assistant referee told the referee to take a look at a jersey grab by Saud Abdulhamid on Paredes.

Saudi Arabia didn't have a shot on goal in the first half and looked like conceding more by playing with a high line that resulted in Argentina getting in behind in the Saudi defense with ease.

The 48th-minute equalizer came from Saudi Arabia's first attempt on target, with Alshehri finding the far corner with an angled finish that went through the legs of defender Cristian Romero and beyond the dive of goalkeeper Emi Martinez.

Goalkeeper Mohammed Alowais made two key saves late in the game to preserve the win.

Argentina plays Mexico in its second Group C match on Saturday.

JOHANNESBURG (AP) South Africa police say a shooting at a tavern in Johannesburgs Soweto township has killed 15 people and left others in critical condition.

Gauteng province police commissioner Lt. Gen. Elias Mawela said police are investigating reports that a group of men arrived in a minibus taxi and opened fire on some of the patrons at the bar shortly after midnight Sunday.

The injured have been taken to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital. The victims range in age from 18-35, according to The New York Times.

Police say the number of cartridges found on the scene indicates that a group of people opened fire in the bar.

In a separate incident, four people were shot dead by unknown gunmen at a tavern in Sweetwaters township in the coastal city of Pietermaritzburg on Saturday night.
